The Opera Park
In the heart of Copenhagen, on the South Island between the Opera House and the Paper Island, lies the new green haven, the Opera Park. The Opera Park fulfils two important roles: providing a much-needed green oasis for the city’s residents and visitors and improving access and parking facilities for the Opera House.
The greenhouse provides access to the underground parking facility, spanning two levels. This is not a typical parking garage, but a modern and unique facility where the black ceilings and concrete floors contrast beautifully with the surrounding nature that extends into the parking area.
In the middle of the parking garage, there is a direct view up to the greenhouse, where a 12-metre-high Ficus Alii tree stands. The tree stretches from the parking garage up to the café, where you can sit under its canopy and enjoy refreshments.
“It is always fantastic to work on projects where colours and shapes play a significant role. For the Opera Park, we supplied various sizes of our DAMPA® Clip-In Custom in a beautiful black colour. At the same time, it had to be a solution that matched the many curves and organic shapes characterising the parking garage,” says Lone Rold, and continues:
“I personally think it turned out really well with the black colour and the perforations extending over the edges, creating a completely uniform ceiling surface where the light can reflect. Additionally, there is something incredibly beautiful about the dark elements against the green oases that are part of the parking garage,” Lone Rold concludes.
Beautiful interplay between light and dark
At the centre of the park, you’ll find its heart: an organically shaped greenhouse with a café. From here, the park’s paths branch out, allowing visitors to experience the park’s vibrant life and changing seasons. The greenhouse provides access to the underground parking facility, spanning two levels. Honoured to be Part of the Project
“It has been exciting to be part of the Opera Park project. We supplied the ceilings for the Opera House when it was built, so it is a great honour to be chosen again,” says Lone Rold, Project & Architect Consultant at DAMPA.“It is always fantastic to work on projects where colours and shapes play a significant role.
