We can now provide the majority of our solutions in steel made with the material SSAB Zero™.

What is SSAB Zero™
SSAB Zero™ is the first step on the path towards completely fossil-free steel.
The material consists of 100% recycled steel. This means that all the steel used in this material is scrap-based. According to SSAB’s own environmental declarations, over 90% of the scrap originates from external sources (post- and pre-consumer scrap), while the remaining portion (less than 10%) comes from internal scrap generated at their own facilities.
SSAB Zero™ is produced through a physically fossil-free process, where both the energy and materials are carefully controlled and documented. There are virtually no fossil emissions during the steel production itself. This is where it differs from many other “green steels”, which are often based on offsetting models (such as purchasing CO2 credits or green electricity certificates)
By 2030 we expect to also offer SSAB Fossil-free™ steel, produced using HYBRIT® technology – a groundbreaking method that replaces coal with hydrogen in the steelmaking process to enable truly fossil-free production from iron ore.
