Sønderborg Hospital has undergone extensive modernisation over a period of more than 10 years to future-proff the hospital as a specialist hospital. The renovation has been carried out in four phases from 2015 to 2026, and throughout the project, DAMPA has supploed more than 18,000 m2 of metal ceilings.

The majority of the ceilings, approximately 16,000 m2, consist of our well-known DAMPA^® Clip-In Tile, while the remaining area features DAMPA^® 300 Panel. The solutions were selected with a focus on ease of cleaning and hygiene, as well as easy access to installations above the ceiling. This makes them well suited to the many different environments and functions found throughout the hospital.

The ceiling solutions have been supplied to areas including intensive care, the outpatient area, recovery, the restaurant, as well as several wards specialising in cancer, lung and blood diseases.

High hygiene requirements

One of the areas placing particularly high demands on the ceiling solution is the Cyto laboratory. This enclosed specialist area is subject to strict requirements for both medication handling and infection control.

For the Cyto laboratory, DAMPA supplied unperforated DAMPA^® Clip-In Tiles with bevelled edges. The bevelled edges make it possible to seal the joints, creating a completely sealed ceiling surface that meets the strict hygiene requirements.

Focus on reuse

Sustainability and reuse have been an important focus throughout the project.

One of the advantages of metal is its long service life and the possibility of dismantling and reinstalling the ceiling panels in a new location after their initial use. This allows existing materials to have their service life extended and to be incorporated into new solutions rather than being replaced.

For this reason, the project has also retained and reused existing metal ceilings and suspension systems wherever possible.
