Product News: Space for Focus and Room for Activity with DAMPA® Space

In collaboration with Kjaer & Richter and Holmris B8, we have developed the learning furniture DAMPA® Space – a flexible and aesthetic solution that introduces calm, structure, and a sense of space within the room.

DAMPA® Space is designed to create ‘a room within a room’. It can be opened and closed as needed and used as, for example, a secluded workstation, a creative workshop area, or a dynamic display surface. Space can be integrated into offices, classrooms, corridors, or larger communal zones, helping to define areas clearly while improving acoustics and providing visual calmness.

Liv Bach Henriksen, Architect MAA and Head of Learning Environments at Kjaer & Richter, explains:

Space helps establish a secure and secluded workstation. When the doors are opened, it promotes focus and concentration. When closed, Space appears as a calm, visual element in the room, which can be actively used for display.

A Growing Need for Inclusive Learning Environments

The demand for inclusive learning environments is increasing. More children and young people are receiving diagnoses, and there is political focus on ensuring that pupils with special educational needs are included in mainstream settings wherever possible.

This calls for new solutions where the physical design actively supports calmness, safety, and flexibility – and it is in this context that DAMPA® Space really makes a difference.
By enabling temporary zones with both visual and acoustic cover, DAMPA® Space supports concentration and a sense of security – without cutting off social interaction.

Acoustic Calmness in an Active Space

Space is based on DAMPA’s acoustic wall panels, DAMPA® Silent Board, and meets the requirements for Acoustic Class A. This means the furniture not only defines physical zones, but also reduces reverberation time and enhances sound quality – a key factor in both educational and office environments.

Acoustics play a vital role in wellbeing, learning, and productivity. With DAMPA® Space, you get a multifunctional solution that combines acoustics, functionality, and flexibility in a single piece of furniture.

Designed with Aesthetics and Functionality in Mind

DAMPA® Space has been developed with equal emphasis on aesthetics and functionality. All materials have been selected with durability, design, and practical use in mind.

In addition to its acoustic benefits, the doors are fire-resistant and compliant with escape route requirements, making DAMPA® Space particularly well-suited for flexible workstations in school corridors.

The tabletop is crafted from solid FSC®-certified plywood, while the back panel features an optional bulletin board surface that can also be used as a notice board.

Fronts, handles, and back panels are available in a range of colours, offering opportunities to customise the look and feel of the room. You can select one colour for the handles, another for the fronts, and a third for the back panel – allowing you to create your own unique combination.
