The Mærsk Building extends the Panum Institute in Copenhagen and is among Denmark’s largest ongoing construction projects. Ceiling supplier DAMPA has significantly contributed by providing timely delivery and advice on the installation process, helping streamline the work for the craftsmen involved in this extensive project.
With its 15-storey research tower and a total area of nearly 43,000 m², the Mærsk Building, as the extension to the Panum Institute in Copenhagen has been named, represents one of the largest construction projects currently underway in Denmark.
Architects from C. F. Møller designed the project, which won first prize in an international architectural competition in 2010 and is being realised with P & Partners as client advisor, Rambøll as engineers, and SLA as landscape architects. Additionally, Aggebo & Henriksen, Cenergia, Gordon Farquharson, and Innovation Lab are part of the team behind the project, which is being developed for BYGST, the University of Copenhagen, and the A. P. Møller & Chastine McKinney-Møller Foundation for General Purposes.
Efficient Construction Process
Regarding the interior works, including internal cladding and technical installations, the carpentry and joinery firm N. H. Hansen holds the contract for ceilings as well as carpentry and joinery. The company has had around 50 workers on site, who have, among other things, installed the so-called pressurised ceilings from ceiling manufacturer DAMPA.
“Together with DAMPA, we found the most optimal way to install the ceilings, allowing us to establish a well-organised plan for the installation process, thereby ensuring maximum efficiency,” says site manager Henrik Christensen from N.H. Hansen, emphasises:
“In a project like this, where the schedule is very tight, it’s crucial to avoid delays as much as possible. In this regard, we’ve benefitted greatly from the fact that the ceiling deliveries have gone exactly as planned. We haven’t had to wait for ceilings, even the more specialised elements. This is vital when you have about 25 workers who are entirely dependent on their ceiling materials arriving at the agreed time and place.”
Ceilings with Added Value
DAMPA is one of Denmark’s leading ceiling manufacturers, supplying several of the country’s largest construction projects. Nevertheless, district manager Torben Rützou doesn’t hide the fact that there is something special about supplying for the Mærsk Building:
“The advantage of this ceiling type is, first and foremost, that it allows for energy-efficient ventilation without the need for large, suspended ventilation units in the rooms. All the technical elements are hidden above the Clip-In Cassettes, which are also easy for maintenance staff to remove when, for example, cables or sensors need servicing. This means you get a completely uniform and calm ceiling surface with plenty of hidden functionality, which visually integrates seamlessly with the rest of the interior surfaces,” highlights Torben Rützou.
