Acoustic Solutions Reused at Ground Fitness

Ground Fitness in Odense has undergone an extensive renovation. However, the existing steel panels did not align with the new design. With a focus on reusing and circularity, DAMPA adapted the wall panels to complement the updated look.

As the renovation neared completion, Sascha Bjerregaard, owner of Ground Fitness, faced a challenge. The existing wall panels from DAMPA, which already adorned the centre, no longer suited the upgraded gym’s darker, more modern aesthetic.

We got new equipment and wanted to elevate the centre’s interior design as well. For instance, our spin room was painted dark, and the light steel panels no longer fit,” explains Sascha Bjerregaard, adding:

We contacted Michael Nykjær at DAMPA to order new wall panels, as we were delighted with the existing ones. We learned that the panels could be repainted to match our new interior. This made the process much easier, as we could reuse the panels instead of ordering new ones.”

A Circular Material

At DAMPA, which has been producing metal acoustic solutions since 1951, circularity is a core value. The Funen-based company develops all its products with a focus on recycling and reuse, says Michael Nykjær, CEO at DAMPA:

When we develop new solutions, we always keep circularity in mind. We work with metal, an incredibly durable material that can be given new life through upgrades. Whether it’s to match new interiors or adapt to changing acoustic needs.

“We have several examples of renovation projects where we’ve reused existing elements – for instance, by recycling an older substructure or repainting ceiling tiles and wall panels, as we did for Ground Fitness. We’re committed to reusing existing elements, as it significantly reduces resource consumption compared to producing a completely new solution,” concludes Michael Nykjær.

Flexibility Makes Reuse Easy

One of the many advantages of DAMPA’s acoustic wall panel, DAMPA Silent Board, is its flexibility. The wall panels are easy to install, dismantle, and relocate if the acoustic needs of a space change. This was also an advantage for Ground Fitness, says Sascha Bjerregaard:

It was easy to take the wall panels down and put them back up, as the support rails were already in place. We needed to move a few panels when we changed the layout of the spin room, but it was straightforward, without major adjustments.
