Acoustics
With DAMPA’s acoustic solutions for ceilings and walls, the acoustics in a room can be customized by utilizing the best of three worlds: a membrane absorber, a resonance absorber, and a porous absorber.
The membrane absorber consists of two parts: the unperforated area of a steel or aluminium sheet and the cavity behind it when it is mounted on a wall or ceiling. When sound energy hits the sheet, the cavity acts as a spring, creating a vibrating movement in conjunction with the metal sheet that attempts to neutralize sound waves, thereby absorbing the sound. The resonance absorber is the perforated surface of the panel, where the holes create “air plugs” that, together with the third and final porous absorber—soft material such as acoustic felt—form a spring that seeks to return the now-vibrating air plugs to their resting position, thus absorbing the sound instead of reflecting it into the room.
The combination of these three elements, along with varying dimensions, depths, and the perforation’s open area, ensures effective reverberation time adjustment, which determines how we perceive the acoustics in a space.
